A Sequence 11 retcon; I don’t think Haytham truly intended to kill Connor even if his son was crippling his Order. Maybe he’d mistaken affection as curiosity when he let him live. Anyway, at that part where Connor’s plan stupidly gets himself injured (firing cannonballs at where you’re going to be? You didn’t think this through, boy) and succumbs to his wound during their fight. Haytham is stunned and his fatherly instincts kick in as they try to cling onto the last physical memento of Ziio.

Is it odd that I actually feel physical pain for these two?

It may be. We both might need to see a doctor.

Pain can be healed its true, but some pains cannot be healed by a doctor.

 It shouldn't be odd at all. Even though their fictional characters, people still get emotional when something bad happens to them

I suppose that is true. But then again, nothing is true.

People don't even understand that phrase. "Nothing is true" means that we're incapable of True knowledge. "Everything is permitted" means that We shouldn't limit ourselves to the truths we hear and create.

Ah but people may understand the phrase, just in a different way, it depends on your point of view.
